A message from Commodore Tripp McOrmond:
Welcome to the Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club (“LEHYC”) Web Site. LEHYC was founded in 1912 for the purpose of promoting yachting and other sports, social events and friendship.
LEHYC has conducted various activities during its 96 years of continuous operation in furtherance of its historical purpose. These activities include our junior sailing program which provides sailing and tennis instruction for roughly 150 participants with inter and intra club sailing events from ages 7-15 in the Optimist Dinghy, Lasers, and 420s. LEHYC conducts weekly senior racing events for E-Scows, Marshal Sanderling Cat Boats, Lightnings, M-Scows and Lasers and hosts the annual Invitational Down Bay Regatta for competition with other yacht clubs in New Jersey. Our highly skilled and professional race committee has twice received the prestigious St. Petersburg Trophy for excellence in race management.
Adult learn-to-sail programs are available and encouraged, as well as social events involving power boat cruises and other destination sailing events. Annually, LEHYC hosts a sailing team race for the Barclay Cup involving competition among teams from local yacht clubs. The Barclay Cup is the oldest active sailing trophy in the State of New Jersey. Sailing at LEHYC is complemented by fishing events, including the annual High Seas Fishing Tournament and the LEHYC Fishing Tournament. The tennis program at LEHYC is conducted on our six hard surface courts with tennis instruction available by professionals. A variety of social and competitive tennis events are held, including Ladies’ Round Robins, parent and child, and mixed doubles tournaments, all culminating in the Club Championships.
The summer calendar is filled with social activities, including art classes, bocci, book club, bridge, exercise classes, Scrambled Eggs for ages 5 to 7, a Junior Yacht Club for teens, social events for young adults, the Eggbeater, a weekly newsletter, Friday night happy hours including a benefit to raise funds for Southern Ocean County Hospital and the Beach Haven Fire and First Aid organizations. There are dinner dances and family social events. It is the volunteer spirit that enables LEHYC to provide the unique activities enjoyed by our members. Volunteer service by club members is an essential historical tradition of LEHYC and is strongly encouraged as a condition of membership.
Please explore our Web Site to learn more about our history and the many activities offered at LEHYC. If you have any questions about LEHYC or require additional information, please send us an email at admin@lehyc.org or call at (609) 492-2529.
Thank you.
